Drum Circles & Rhythm Events
What exactly is a Drum Circle? A drum circle is a highly interactive activity where no previous experience is needed to participate. When people come together as a group to create rhythm, something intrinsic and inclusive happens. Picture a flock of birds flying together…one of the birds is leading the way, but all of the birds seem to know exactly where the lead bird is going. This same phenomenon begins to happen with a group of drummers that are listening to each other and playing together. One drummer plays and more and more drummers are able to join in and naturally play with the momentum of the rhythm.
Rhythm Events
A Rhythm Event is a drum circle that is associated with an organization such as a school or camp. The organization will host the event, and Path To Rhythm will facilitate and bring all of the drums and percussion instruments for participants to use. A Rhythm Event is interactive group drumming with intention. The intention can be many things, recreational (fun!), educational (learning), and motivational (empowering), are a few of the common intentions set in a Rhythm Event.
Types
For Schools: Programs for schools are focused on interactive learning. Most sessions include a brief lesson on the history of the drum, it’s origins and cultural significance. We will play together as a group, and also explore individual self expression within a group context. You can expect the students to love the freedom of drumming, and also appreciate the guidance that the facilitator provides to add discipline and structure to the activity. This program gives new meaning to the term “hands on learning”!
Benefits include:
- increases musical aptitude
- low-impact physical activity
- builds confidence
An option for a school is to have Adam as a Teaching Artist in Residence. This allows the opportunity to have Adam work with the students on a regular basis, fostering a unique learning experience for students who otherwise may not have access to drum instruction.
For Camps: Path To Rhythm specializes in offering remarkable programs for summer camps. Given Adam’s camp story, it is an obvious fit to combine his passion for drumming with his love of camp. Find out more about the Camp Programs we offer here.
