Participation

Here in New York,  I am enjoying the beginning of Spring and the joy it brings to me. This is a time of year where the school programs aspect of Path To Rhythm slows down as students in schools take state ELA and Math testing. It is also the time when we are finalizing the summer schedule and solidify agreements with the camps that we will have the opportunity to work with during the upcoming summer. I am taking time to maintain and clean the drums, and I am taking advantage of being outdoors and going on bike rides with my eight year old son, Jackson. (yes, I wear a helmet!)

This month while working on a design for the content of a school program for next month, I am looking at ways to involve not only the students, but the teachers as well. This can be a particularly stressful time of year for teachers as they have worked hard to help their students prepare for state testing and have been working through the winter doldrums. Although Spring is in the air, there is still a stretch and big push to keep the students engaged, inspired, and on track to make it through to June.

The word the comes up for me is PARTICIPATION.

I am frequently looking for ways in our programs to have full participation from all students, and yes, the teachers as well. I have seen first hand how students are inspired and proud when they have their teachers join them in a drumming activity. The teachers are able to enjoy and participate in an activity with the students and connect with them in a fun and light hearted way. Each Path To Rhythm program takes time to honor and acknowledge the classroom teachers for all of the work that they do.

The same thing happens at summer camps, although we are working with the campers, it is a priority for me to engage the counselors and have them participate. This creates a stronger sense of community and connection for all involved.

Participation also happens in our workplace team building programs when upper management and leadership participates with employees from all across the board.

Being a leader often requires participation. How do you participate with your organization? How do you engage with your campers, students, staff, families, etc.? Are you willing and ready to model engagement through participation?

We love designing programs that encourage full participation and engagement. Be sure to check out our program offerings below, we are here to serve you and your community!
